Celebrating Mother’s Day in Quarantine

(top left to right)  Grandma and Me; Mom and me; (bottom left to right) My Bunny & Me; Mom-In-Law and Me As we are all getting used to the “new normal”, staying home shouldn’t really stop us from showing our love and gratitude for the people we love. With each new day, calendar forwards without a change and occasions come on the defined time – unaware of the fact that we are under lockdown due to COVID-19. With the occasions falling on a calendar day, the only difference I find is that everything is home-bound instead of a fun-filled evening watching the most awaited blockbuster at Cineplex followed by dinner at your favorite restaurant or traveling to the nearby destination and spending a night at the lake-side hotel! But this shouldn’t stop the fun or stop you from celebrating and acknowledging the special days – Birthday, Anniversary, Festivals, and appreciation days such as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day! Since 2020 is a special year, Mother’s Day celebration ...

Imagining Motherhood

Motherhood is a memorable journey of a woman's transformation into a mother. Just when you first come to know about your pregnancy it is an overwhelming feeling. It is a mix of joy and panic. You can't believe that you are carrying a baby in your belly, and at the same time thinking, this baby will be in your arms in 9 months. You might also see the flashbackwA of your own childhood memories.  When my pregnancy was confirmed, my first fear and dilemma was how will I survive through the 9 months? Morning sickness had stepped in as the earliest pregnancy symptom for me and so the pain of overcoming this feeling of nausea and vomiting was unthinkable. I was also afraid of physical changes my body was going to go through the coming months. But with my husband's constant emotional support, I was confident to overcome the fear and look forward to the next 9 months of my life.  My motherhood thoughts were ranging from my pregnancy, delivery, breast-feeding, postpartum reco...

Tips To Deal With Morning Sickness

Not all women are lucky to get through pregnancy without experiencing morning sickness at some point through the nine months. Against the term "morning sickness", this feeling of nausea with or without vomiting can affect any pregnant woman at any time of the day, that is morning, afternoon, evening or it can even happen at night. Your pregnancy hormones are to blame for this nasty feeling. One of my earliest pregnancy symptom was the morning sickness. To describe it in one work, it was terrible. I threw up day and night. Not only food even plain water. My morning sickness was so much to the point that my doctor had prescribed me medicine to cope up with it. Other than the medicine, there were some home remedies I put into practice. These were either shared by friends, or researched on the internet or invented by me as it gave me relief.  Here are my tips on dealing with morning sickness: Crackers: I took 2 crackers everyday at 6:00 am right in the bed before I was...

Sharing The News

After your engagement and wedding announcement, the most awaited news are about your pregnancy. When we found out I was pregnant, our conversation around sharing the news came up naturally. I had only returned back from my trip to India visiting family and friends. Just in a week my in-laws were flying in to stay with us for a few months. Everything happened at the right time.  My parents were very much concerned about my health as I had fallen ill with an upset stomach all through my 3 week trip to India. My father teased me by asking, when was I sharing the news of "Mindadu"- meaning my kitten? I called him just after I had my ultrasound and started our routine conversation. Then I threw the news at him by saying, "I have no stomach flu, its the kitten"! I could hear his happiest voice in my entire life. There was happiness on both sides of the phone. He broke the news to my mom while I was still on the phone. I could hear mom cry in joy. It was all magical an...
