Celebrating Mother’s Day in Quarantine

(top left to right)  Grandma and Me; Mom and me; (bottom left to right) My Bunny & Me; Mom-In-Law and Me As we are all getting used to the “new normal”, staying home shouldn’t really stop us from showing our love and gratitude for the people we love. With each new day, calendar forwards without a change and occasions come on the defined time – unaware of the fact that we are under lockdown due to COVID-19. With the occasions falling on a calendar day, the only difference I find is that everything is home-bound instead of a fun-filled evening watching the most awaited blockbuster at Cineplex followed by dinner at your favorite restaurant or traveling to the nearby destination and spending a night at the lake-side hotel! But this shouldn’t stop the fun or stop you from celebrating and acknowledging the special days – Birthday, Anniversary, Festivals, and appreciation days such as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day! Since 2020 is a special year, Mother’s Day celebration ...

Reflections From The First Trimester

The first trimester flew in the blink of our eyes, however, my morning sickness made it a little bit more challenging. Aside from that everything else seemed to be highly magical. From the moment of knowing I was pregnant to sharing the news and living with the fact that I was raising a human being inside, I felt wonderful. My bonding with my husband was more beautiful as he cared for me not only as his wife but also as a “mom-to-be”! He took care of my routine, my comfort, my food cravings and aversions, my overall likes and dislikes. His parents were lucky to be here spending some time with us on Canada during my first trimester. They were with us until I was six months pregnant. I observed it was very natural for me to touch my belly every now and then. It was instantaneous and normal. I had started talking to my baby – even though he was very very little. I created the bond from the very beginning. My baby bump was visible only towards the end of my first trimester. It was ...

First Trimester Must Haves

Since the time I knew I was pregnant, I researched about things I will need to survive through the nine months of pregnancy. It is common for people to refer to your pregnancy in weeks, months or trimesters when they ask you about your progress, your physical and emotional changes and so on. Most common question a lot of my friends who got pregnant after me asked me was about the things I used or needed during each trimester. This blog will focus only on the first trimester must haves. Honestly, this is the easiest trimester in terms of clothing or using your same shoes as your body is still very much the same as it was before you got pregnant and no baby bump is visible yet.  Pregnancy demands certain things for the comfort of mom-to-be as well. Raising a human being inside your womb is definitely not an easy job. It takes lot of exhaustion, fatigue, extra fat, morning sickness, stretch marks and increasing pant sizes from moms to grow that tiny human being! All these ...

First Trimester Checklist

The news of pregnancy is often overwhelming for new parents-to-be, especially if it’s your first one. My husband and I felt amused at this beautiful journey we were going to begin as parents-to-be. Because it was our first baby, we were no experts on pregnancy or parenting. But as the days passed by, we started learning and enjoying the new adventure. From both of our experience, here is the checklist you can follow during the first trimester. 1.     Doctor Appointment - Most important thing for you all through your pregnancy are your doctor appointments. Check with your physician who your possible OB/Gynec you would be. Proactively, you can also do your own research and if you have a preference on choosing your OB/Gynec, you can discuss with your family doctor. 2.     Bump Picture - I bet, you will look at these while you are awaiting the arrival of your munchkin and want to hold him in your arms right away. This is the best way to captur...

Imagining Motherhood

Motherhood is a memorable journey of a woman's transformation into a mother. Just when you first come to know about your pregnancy it is an overwhelming feeling. It is a mix of joy and panic. You can't believe that you are carrying a baby in your belly, and at the same time thinking, this baby will be in your arms in 9 months. You might also see the flashbackwA of your own childhood memories.  When my pregnancy was confirmed, my first fear and dilemma was how will I survive through the 9 months? Morning sickness had stepped in as the earliest pregnancy symptom for me and so the pain of overcoming this feeling of nausea and vomiting was unthinkable. I was also afraid of physical changes my body was going to go through the coming months. But with my husband's constant emotional support, I was confident to overcome the fear and look forward to the next 9 months of my life.  My motherhood thoughts were ranging from my pregnancy, delivery, breast-feeding, postpartum reco...

Tips To Deal With Morning Sickness

Not all women are lucky to get through pregnancy without experiencing morning sickness at some point through the nine months. Against the term "morning sickness", this feeling of nausea with or without vomiting can affect any pregnant woman at any time of the day, that is morning, afternoon, evening or it can even happen at night. Your pregnancy hormones are to blame for this nasty feeling. One of my earliest pregnancy symptom was the morning sickness. To describe it in one work, it was terrible. I threw up day and night. Not only food even plain water. My morning sickness was so much to the point that my doctor had prescribed me medicine to cope up with it. Other than the medicine, there were some home remedies I put into practice. These were either shared by friends, or researched on the internet or invented by me as it gave me relief.  Here are my tips on dealing with morning sickness: Crackers: I took 2 crackers everyday at 6:00 am right in the bed before I was...

Sharing The News

After your engagement and wedding announcement, the most awaited news are about your pregnancy. When we found out I was pregnant, our conversation around sharing the news came up naturally. I had only returned back from my trip to India visiting family and friends. Just in a week my in-laws were flying in to stay with us for a few months. Everything happened at the right time.  My parents were very much concerned about my health as I had fallen ill with an upset stomach all through my 3 week trip to India. My father teased me by asking, when was I sharing the news of "Mindadu"- meaning my kitten? I called him just after I had my ultrasound and started our routine conversation. Then I threw the news at him by saying, "I have no stomach flu, its the kitten"! I could hear his happiest voice in my entire life. There was happiness on both sides of the phone. He broke the news to my mom while I was still on the phone. I could hear mom cry in joy. It was all magical an...

First Ultrasound & First Trimester Diet

My First UltraSound Testing positive on the pregnancy test at home and in your doctor's office is not enough to confirm. There is blood work followed by an ultrasound. I have had ultrasounds in the past, but this one was special. Both my husband and I were excited. He picked me up from work and we reached the clinic. The Radiologist there knew me well and already made me feel special. His first words, "carefully climb and lie down on the table". I felt different. I cannot explain those feelings. He then applied the gel and started rolling it with the handheld machine. He had a big TV screen set up right across the table where I was lying. And in a few minutes he drew our attention to a tiny white spot. It was my little munchkin! The spot was moving constantly in a regular fashion - I would say just like our heart beat. I was awe-struck. A tear silently rolled from the corner of my eye. My husband and I had a quick eye contact in the dark testing room and we ...
