Celebrating Mother’s Day in Quarantine

(top left to right)  Grandma and Me; Mom and me; (bottom left to right) My Bunny & Me; Mom-In-Law and Me As we are all getting used to the “new normal”, staying home shouldn’t really stop us from showing our love and gratitude for the people we love. With each new day, calendar forwards without a change and occasions come on the defined time – unaware of the fact that we are under lockdown due to COVID-19. With the occasions falling on a calendar day, the only difference I find is that everything is home-bound instead of a fun-filled evening watching the most awaited blockbuster at Cineplex followed by dinner at your favorite restaurant or traveling to the nearby destination and spending a night at the lake-side hotel! But this shouldn’t stop the fun or stop you from celebrating and acknowledging the special days – Birthday, Anniversary, Festivals, and appreciation days such as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day! Since 2020 is a special year, Mother’s Day celebration ...

First Ultrasound & First Trimester Diet

My First UltraSound Testing positive on the pregnancy test at home and in your doctor's office is not enough to confirm. There is blood work followed by an ultrasound. I have had ultrasounds in the past, but this one was special. Both my husband and I were excited. He picked me up from work and we reached the clinic. The Radiologist there knew me well and already made me feel special. His first words, "carefully climb and lie down on the table". I felt different. I cannot explain those feelings. He then applied the gel and started rolling it with the handheld machine. He had a big TV screen set up right across the table where I was lying. And in a few minutes he drew our attention to a tiny white spot. It was my little munchkin! The spot was moving constantly in a regular fashion - I would say just like our heart beat. I was awe-struck. A tear silently rolled from the corner of my eye. My husband and I had a quick eye contact in the dark testing room and we ...

Am I Pregnant?

I can remember it was February 2016 and we were celebrating the Henna function for my sister's wedding in India. I had only been in India for about 5 - 6 days since I landed and was scheduled to return next week. I had a terribly upset stomach. It made me feel so sick that I just couldn't eat anything except plain rice and yoghurt. I am a big junkie when it comes to Indian street food. From the day 1 I ate all my favourite foods including pani puri, sev puri, chana chor & more. And all through my trip I blamed the street for my upset stomach. However, I had a funny feeling near my belly button which I couldn't relate to anything but tickles and heaviness. It felt like a stone placed on my stomach. I only told my mom I feel I might have conceived. But we did not discuss further as we were all so busy with the wedding.  It was only after we returned back to Canada, I started throwing up crazily, still blaming the street food and change in the weather and travel an...

Are You Baby Ready?

Just when I got married in 2014, I had a lot of family and friends share their secrets saying, "Enjoy your honeymoon period to the best before you plan a baby". My husband and I always chuckled back to such comments. As the year passed by and the first anniversary was celebrated, the lovely honeymoon period comments changed into personal questions. People asked, "When are you sharing the NEWS?", "When are you inviting us to your Baby Shower?", "You have enjoyed your honeymoon period for long enough, now is the time to plan your baby". We laughed again! Belonging to traditional Indian families, such expectations are common as soon as you are married. We did not really pay a lot of attention to these talks, instead spent time with each other. Deciding to bring another life into this world in itself is a beautiful feeling. Just close your eyes for a moment and think about bringing a little baby into this world... your eyes will be filled wit...

The Beginning...

Hello & Welcome to my blog. Babiesnmii is my first blog where I hope to share my pregnancy, maternity and postpartum experiences with you. I wish I can walk with you through this beautiful journey and you can relate it with mine. I am a loved wife , a working woman and a mommy to a handsome little boy – Aarav. I have always had a passion for writing. As a child, I scribbled poems about my papa, mummy and sister. As I grew older I got creative with my writing skills and explored writing short stories, speeches, poems, essays and a book! This blog is dedicated to my loving hubby Harsh - my motivator and pillar of support, my dad – Harin, who is a writer himself - my inspiration and of course my mom - Sapna, my parenting idol!!  It was 2:00 am when my pregnancy test showed "+"... it felt like the second-best moment of my life, the first being the destiny of meeting my better half! The feeling of me - as a “mommy-to-be” filled my little world with delight....
